Drugs/Alcohol/School & Parenting in 2008! w/Courageous Parents and Pre-Teens/Teens Addressing the Issues - Air Date: 03-30-08
Thursday, March 27, 2008, 05:43 PM
Welcome kids and parents. We are dealing with Drugs/Alcohol/School & Parenting in 2008!

It’s a different ball game in 2008. We are in the outcome of the 1960’s Sex, Drugs and Rock ‘n Roll era.

We have numbed ourselves to the idea of teaching the concept of “no” and the danger of any drugs and alcohol. Marijuana is a drug; alcohol is a depressant that takes the oxygen out of your blood stream which affects your immune system.

Sex, too young, keeps true intimacy and love from growing and connecting to another, often resulting in sex addiction before the heart, body, mind and soul have truly developed and matured. Before you give yourself to another, shouldn't you at least, have a sense of self ….for yourself?

Our young children are saying “I just wanted to see,” “I was curious.” The concept of "Danger" is not being heard by our children. If parents are doing drugs and drinking too much alcohol themselves what message is that? We, as parents, need to behave in ways we want our kids to act like. The question is....Are we willing to deal with ourselves too? This type of lifestyle does not need to be an experience our kids have to go through.

It is said: There are 2 great businesses to go into…
1. Senior Living facilities because of the Baby Boomers
2. Drug Rehab's & Sober Living establishments.
Why? How is the drug and alcohol situation really going in our culture? And what affect does early sex experiences really create?
This way of life is now an expectation for our children.
If we are presently having or had early sex or promiscuous sex....or currently do or did drugs/alcohol.....
We may feel guilty or hypocritical for teaching "no" to our children. Stop here!
Guilt is not deep or spiritual, so use guilt as a "check in" to see how you feel and find truths. But do not use guilt, anger or fear as a decision maker.

School is no longer about education, its about keeping your kids safe. Schools have become every unsafe. Even young kids are selling prescription drugs for guess what? Food? Not usually. Try clothes, shoes or jewelry.

Pot is the drug that doesn't count as a drug says the world. (You've got to be kidding me)
And wine…isn't alcohol either, right? (This is common denial.)
Where are your inner truths? Without truth, how can you have clarity and take ownership for your life if you're denying, defensive or deflecting? Hello?…….Are we twisted enough yet?

This generation child has been exposed to so much with no self processing skill to truly understand anything they are watching, feeling and expressing. Children, as well as, adults are often very literal and living to "fit in" with the ““norm”” even if they or others they love get hurt. If you follow “the norm” ….isn't that a true loss of self? After all, wasn't it the ““norm”” to own black people once? OK........... keep following the crowd, I guess.
There have been documented TV shows that prove no matter how hard a parent teaches, "stay away from strangers," "just say no." 9 out of 10 times, kids will be manipulated and unfortunately, will go to the stranger and if a friend or popular person says: "try this".....they probably will.
Boys do not have impulse control until 21 and girls are more aggressive and willing to drop boundaries to prove they can please a boy sexually by age 13. It's like a game.

So what are we going to do about it? Can we teach truth above feelings and learn to practice this ourselves?

My son JJ, who will be coming on the show, seems to have plenty to say about this subject matter. He is 17 and has been struggling strongly with anger, hurt, sadness and depression by being sober and admitting to his peers he is not ready to have sex.

This is some of what he has to say: "I can't get close to people who do weed and drugs. People who drink and do drugs numb out their feelings. It's an escape for people who don't want to deal with their lives. Why can't kids or even adults watch others and just learn from what is obvious. I have lost many friends because they have decided to smoke weed with other kids, over being with me. It hurts when they choose weed or alcohol over a friend/me. It makes me angry and I don't want to get close to anyone my age. I can't date someone who smokes/drinks/or is using drugs. They're not balanced. They're unstable, out of control. They are either enraged or shut down completely. There is no trust. They can't listen or feel me. And yes, they can hurt people around them, which would be me."

A Post Script from Mom, Gina: Thank you Mona for inviting me to your show. It was an amazing experience. Hearing Ruby was healing for me. I was in way too many unsafe situations when I was her age, and her sharing brought light to that dark time in me. I honor and thank her for her courage and the gift of healing it brought to me.

I was also blown over by Nicolo and JJ, they were so real and so articulate! ALL 3 of them inspired me with their courage and sensitivity.

For them, I wanted to own and be clear that as a teenager and into my early twenties, along with being the control freak kid panicking about drug and alcohol use, I also had plenty of times where I chose to check out with alcohol and drugs. I hated being \"high\" and also couldn't handle the post high depression - worst despair I have ever felt.

It was a cycle of participating in the drinking/drugs, getting scared and depressed as a result, abstaining but remaining part of a drinking/drug behaving social circle which kept me in a state of anxiety, then I would cave to the peer pressure or the need for the break from the anxiety and participate. It took literally moving to a new city for me to break the cycle. I just wanted to be clear that I was in both parts of the cycle --all of it was hell.

Having many years of healing behind me, I still face the choice to have a glass of wine at the end of the day or to go into workaholic mode to avoid dealing with my thoughts and feelings. Processing my thoughts and feelings or doing yoga though, does more than take the edge off, it literally alters my whole being away from stress and anger to a deeply resourceful state of love and gratitude. Then from this state the world is easy and a pleasure to deal with, no matter what life brings my way.

Easter & New Beginnings wtih Reuben Carranza & Actor / Director / Producer, Kidney-Transplant Recipient & Host of Kidney Talk, Stephen Furst - Air Date: 03-23-08
Thursday, March 20, 2008, 08:28 PM
Easter...A New Beginning with Gratefulness through the Understanding of Pain
........March is Kidney Disease Month.....What is the message of Illness?..........
.............Talk Radio and The Mona Miller Show are the Messengers for Ways to See and Have..................New Beginnings ..........

Today is Easter which metaphorically represents the Resurrection of us all. Resurrection means.....restore to life, rising again, revival...
And if you look at the word resuscitate........it means revive, bring back from being nearly dead. So in the healing of the mind and body and soul we heal through the resuscitation of hurt, confusion and life and death only to awaken in a new belief and behavior hopefully………………….to “Go Beyond What We Know” ™

What is the purpose spiritually for such experiences? In struggle we learn peace, acceptance and gratefulness. In death we learn to let go, understand and stop judging. Everything is for a reason if we choose to listen.
New Beginnings and the forgiveness of ourselves as well as others is our own personal Resurrection. With an understanding of the past, as a map to change today, we create a new tomorrow.
We are all looking for ways to unite together and make changes as a group no matter the race, religion or physical location of our bodies in the world.

So I wanted to create a unification of something and educate why we have non-profit organizations and people using the media to teach of things that would have never been available. Our different nations would have never been exposed to each other without it.

Communication through language of what we really want to say helps us see the struggle of illness as our best teacher on how to live and begin anew. So the resurrection of our minds, hearts, bodies and souls while still here on Earth or……. in the passing of our soul to the next step is what today is about.

Happy Easter or New beginning is the message no matter your religion or culture.
So talk radio today……….could be a blessing if we watch what we say.

A blessing means...to give thanks, be grateful and use this gratefulness as the most important ingredient towards building happiness even if ill or hurt.

Joy today means we celebrate the blessing of life through struggles and see them as strengths, not weaknesses because it is the fastest way to our soul and out of our ego.

So What Can We See, Feel, and Understand about disease and the healing power of rinsing mentally, emotionally and physically? Can we take the fear and pain and turn it to a healing power of gratefulness and change ourselves and each other.

March is Kidney Awareness Month

This week help me welcome Reuben Carranza, (so sorry for mispronouncing your last name on air)and Actor (ANIMAL HOUSE, ST. ELSEWHERE, BABYLON 5)/Director/Producer, Kidney-Transplant Recipient and Host of Kidney Talk,Stephen Furst.

Kidney disease is more common than many realize, affecting people of all ages. If the ailment is left unchecked, kidneys stop working altogether, and the person needs either blood-cleaning dialysis or a kidney transplant. Close to 400,000 people in the U.S. are currently on dialysis, and about 70,000 are waiting for a transplant. More than 26 million adult Americans have some form of chronic kidney disease—more than one in seven. Diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity are the main causes.

“Most people with kidney disease don’t know they have it and are unaware of the most common warning signs of kidney disease--foamy urine, mental confusion, headaches, nausea and vomiting--so we are making a mini-movie about them,” Stephen Furst explains.

“If you have any of these conditions, ask your doctor for a simple blood test called a Glomerular Filtration Rate assessment (GFR). One of the goals of Kidney Month is to encourage people to get tested and learn how to prevent or delay chronic kidney failure.”

If left undiagnosed, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD: the progressive loss of kidney function over time) can lead to End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD: total, irreversible loss of kidney function, requiring lifetime dialysis or a kidney transplant).

March 13, 2008 World Kidney Day was observed around the globe. Its purpose was to raise awareness about the importance of our kidneys and to show that kidney disease is treatable. Last year, celebrations occurred in 66 countries.

Can We All Be St. Patrick? w/Michael Thompson of ESPN Radio - Air Date: 03-16-08
Friday, March 14, 2008, 03:57 PM
I wanted to talk today about how to see ourselves in anyone or anything with my special and talented guest/client Michael Thompson of ESPN Radio.

For instance, it's St. Patrick's Day. So how can we take the life of St. Patrick and see and know ourselves clearer and deeper. This exercise kills the judger and breeds depth and change of self yourself. So what do St. Patrick and Michael Thompson have to do with each other? I can show you where they are different or where they are the same. Depending on my perception, I can judge or understand.

It is known that St. Patrick was born in Britain to wealthy parents near the end of the fourth century. He is believed to have died on March 17, around 460 A.D. At the age of sixteen, Patrick was taken prisoner by a group of Irish raiders who were attacking his family's estate. They transported him to Ireland where he spent six years in captivity. During this time, he worked as a shepherd, outdoors and away from people. Lonely and afraid, he turned to his religion for solace, becoming a devout Christian. (It is also believed that Patrick first began to dream of converting the Irish people to Christianity during his captivity.)

After more than six years as a prisoner, Patrick escaped. According to his writing, a voice-which he believed to be God's-spoke to him in a dream, telling him it was time to leave Ireland.

Mike Thompson had a home, 2 parents and an education but felt a prisoner within his own home. With rage, alcoholism and pain as parents, Mike felt isolated, alone and yet inspiration from within was brewing. He too found Spirituality with dreams of who he is and what he should do to touch not only himself but others. Mike got lost into many addictions to try to feel better while stuck in the hurt and fear. The liar and drinker have come to a peaceful place inside but the food is the last of the addictive nurturers.

After escaping to Britain, Patrick reported that he experienced a second revelation-an angel in a dream tells him to return to Ireland as a missionary. Soon after, Patrick began religious training, a course of study that lasted more than fifteen years.

After running away from himself and family, Mike began and is still studying Spirituality for over 10 years. Mike has learned how to see and understand his dreams as metaphors, memories and messages from his ego and soul/angel/God etc.

After his ordination as a priest, he was sent to Ireland with a dual mission-to minister to Christians already living in Ireland and to begin to convert the Irish. (Interestingly, this mission contradicts the widely held notion that Patrick introduced Christianity to Ireland.)

After getting the basic concepts of truth and love and then creating from that, Mike Thompson, began to affect everyone in his personal and work life. This matters as much as a minister, Rabbi, priest, shaman etc.

Familiar with the Irish language and culture, Patrick chose to incorporate traditional ritual into his lessons of Christianity instead of attempting to eradicate native Irish beliefs. For instance, he used bonfires to celebrate Easter since the Irish were used to honoring their gods with fire. He also superimposed a sun, a powerful Irish symbol, onto the Christian cross to create what is now called a Celtic cross, so that veneration of the symbol would seem more natural to the Irish. (Although there were a small number of Christians on the island when Patrick arrived, most Irish practiced a nature-based pagan religion. The Irish culture centered around a rich tradition of oral legend and myth. When this is considered, it is no surprise that the story of Patrick's life became exaggerated over the centuries-spinning exciting tales to remember history has always been a part of the Irish way of life.)

Notice that exact factors are not the point, the point is the picture or metaphor, which is the vision to show us wisdom for a present time affect.

Including the famous account of his banishing all the snakes from Ireland, are false, the products of hundreds of years of exaggerated storytelling.

Mike will also speak in the language of humor, using whatever symbols or vocabulary the people around him use for connection and understanding. To work with the culture or understanding of people around you versus against sets up connection and growth. Just like St. Patrick did?

So how are we like everyone?

So welcome my guest Michael Thompson, a successful radio broadcaster who has built radio stations and brands throughout the United States. Currently, he is the Senior Director of Digital Media for ESPN Radio in Bristol, Connecticut. Mike, has been working with Mona Miller for about 10 years -- and considers her wisdom and guidance to see himself as his is, and to create awareness, as a life saving relationship. Mike was life long bachelor -- but found true love several years ago, and recently celebrated his two year anniversary to the very patient Jan.

Mike has struggled his entire adult life with depression, addiction and even now.........weight -- at one time almost reaching 400 pounds. Presently, he is in process for the Lap-Band procedure.

The metaphoric of St. Patrick and Mike match in the experience of
Wealth & Family
Captivity & Freedom
Slave vs. Leader
Human vs. Spiritual
Intuitively Deep vs. Unaware
Communication vs. Judgment of Others
Of his experience into spirituality
Student vs. Teacher

So far ........... for the successful Mike Thompson he is sharing his story that relates to St. Patrick as we all can be both sinner, lost to spiritual intuitive, and saint while singing Danny Boy at the same time.

Danny Boy
Lyrics By Frederic Edward Weatherly

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Just a little on Danny Boy................Did you know newly arrived immigrants from Ireland have frequently never heard of Danny Boy! Where did the song come from? Is it Irish at all? Those who subscribe to the Internet Irish music list IRTRAD-L may have seen a discussion of these points by folk music experts John Moulden and Philippe Varlet. Interestingly, the answer can be found in the collection of traditional Irish harp music made by Edward Bunting a little more than 200 years ago!

Danny Boy is one of over 100 songs composed to the same tune. The author was an English lawyer, Frederic Edward Weatherly (1848-1929), who was also a songwriter and radio entertainer. In 1910 he wrote the words and music for an unsuccessful song he called Danny Boy. In 1912 his sister-in-law in America sent him a tune called the Londonderry Air, which he had never heard before. He immediately noticed that the melody was perfectly fitted to his Danny Boy lyrics, and published a revised version of the song in 1913. As far as is known, Weatherly never set foot in Ireland.

The publisher Boosey accepted the song, and then it came to light that an old friend of Weatherley's, Alfred Perceval Graves, author of "Trottin' to the Fair"…, had already written two lyrics to the melody. Graves took strong except to having the folk-tune 'poached', and it seems that the friendship with Weatherly came to an abrupt end.

The Financial Realm in 2008 w/Financial Advisor and Branch Manager of a major Wall Street firm, Tim Gandy - Air Date: 03-09-08
Thursday, March 6, 2008, 02:34 PM
Timing is part of truth. So, if we were in gluttony wouldn't it make sense that a low tide would follow as a way of balancing, not punishment?

Can you put faith in truth and listen to healthy boundaries even if those boundaries and truth tells you "no" and the "no" goes against your feelings and desires?
Is that what it means to "Let God Lead" Let the message of "Truth", lead your life?
So, can you follow truth above feelings and desires?
Is that what Loving God #1 means? Trusting your intuitive truths?
It says in the wise books ....Be careful of the Golden Calf and treating the Golden Calf as your god!
If God is Truth and we are manipulating systems that are there to keep balance and structure for the long haul can't that cause an uproar and confusion?
And............can you check-in to see how many times and ways we fall for "The Golden Calf"?
If you put acceptance and understanding on top of truth you have intuition, owning and wisdom.

Does that feel clear and safe? Does that mean manipulative desire and sales pitches won't work?

Sooooooooooooooooo what does it mean to be in the timing of money?

“Time in the Market” vs. “Timing the Market”

Tim Gandy, financial manager and advisor frequently asks clients this: clients who call to bemoan stock market gyrations with no need to sell right away is, "If you went home right now and found a two foot by three foot digital sign above your front door that displayed the up to the minute value of your home, would you sell it just because it went down in value?".

Furthermore, "Would you check the value of your home several times a day just to find out what it was worth?" Most people find the idea of checking the daily value of their homes ridiculous unless they are looking to sell in the very near term. Unless you are a day trader or looking to liquidate your portfolio for a specific event checking the value of your portfolio daily (let alone several times a day) is crazy making.

This is one of the principle differences between trading and investing. When you invest prepare yourself to give the market a full market cycle, typically four to six years. This does not mean putting your head in the sand and ignoring your portfolio, but checking monthly or quarterly will usually suffice. After all, isn't that what your pay a competent and trusted financial advisor to do?

“Stay in the game” means what to you?

Are you gambler or a balanced investor who owns his or her actions with integral beliefs?

How are you consciously or subconsciously affected by these headlines?
Can you read in-between the lines?
Fear makes us all vulnerable and weak at checking-in on intuitive truths!

5. It's a Bull! These Chickens out there won't tell you about the REAL THREAT to investors!

6. And......................”It could cost you thousands or even millions in lost profits!”

Watch this..........................

First they scare you, which feels like truth, and then they try to sell you a product to save you like......... Could this really be the NEXT Big Company (company's name here)?
Then they say something like......................with this new upcoming company or stock you could make a massive profit that has a billion dollar market cap.

What is a Market Cap? And why does that sound good to you or does it?

7. Are we headed for an EPIC crash or Bear market?
a. Why do they use the word epic?
b. Can you feel that internal disconnect and wanting to be lead and jump?

This language is not logical, it's psychological
So wanna play?

Warning: When someone announces fears......it appears..........they're telling the truth!
Market hysteria exists to sell papers and advertising space a.k.a. commercials.
Yes, the capital markets are in struggle and readjustment right now.
Yes, there are liquidity issues.
Yes, many of our revered financial institutions made poor bets on bad loans and investments.
a. Will this last forever NO!
b. Is government intervention the panacea ABSOLUTELY NOT.

The capital markets will always find equilibrium. What is happening now is almost a complete repeat of the early 1990's and what followed was a wave of unprecedented growth and expansion followed by the tech bubble again followed by a wave of expansion...get the point?

Market excesses will almost always be followed by a correction and corrections will almost always be followed by expansion. The markets move in cycles and if you are well allocated and have decided you are an investor not a trader your life will not be a reflection of the daily headlines or reflect the commentary of the talking head de jour.

In short, have a plan, work the plan, monitor the plan, make adjustments where necessary and as Chuck D would say, "Don't believe the hype."
