Happiness vs. Pain
Thursday, September 25, 2008, 04:31 PM

Show Air Date: September 27, 2008

And where is Miss Mona today as you hear this show??????????

I'm in the hospital with a Neuro Surgeon who went away last weekend and didn't come on the show to explain himself. So I guess I get to talk about him and he is defenseless. Luckily this airs after the surgery. Too bad! LOL!

P.S. I will fill you all in next week with how he did. OK?

One of the greatest opportunities you have in your life is to get in touch with your inner self for healing. I have had many opportunities to do this and I guess I get to do it again. The way I handle things is through play, laughter, and depth of looking for the underlying wisdom in each challenge.

Emotional stress has a direct affect on the body. The emotional energies that are not expressed will invade the body; stress our organs, and certainly the glandular system. Glands will over- or under-generate their biochemical output, further creating an inappropriate biochemical energy environment, further contributing to depression and actual physical illnesses.

No, I am not depressed yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pain can bring you down. Frustration from waiting for this surgery can cause pain. Frustration and waiting are both anger words. I feel myself tighten and I become very aware of the pain just thinking about it. The question is how do you win over pain?

You can transform challenging emotions, physical ailments and difficulties, and negative thinking by asking questions of yourself and actually answering the questions. Don't spin in the question or you will cause further pain. Mental pain from the confusions of unanswered questions and feeling like a victim from a helpless/ hopeless view point can release chemicals into your body that can actually affect your head, stomach, or other organs. Hard to believe, but if you stop and think a moment, I bet you can see where you or someone else has done this.

*Check out the book from Louise L. Hay You Can Heal Your Life!
For example; the question: Why me? This is a common one, right? Well, I say, why not you or me in this case? There are many deeper lessons and experiences that happen with illness and all struggles of life.
When you ask, "why me"?
Answer: This is about me because… I am thinking… I am feeling… I am learning…This reminds me of… I need to change…Answer the question please!

Empathy vs. Sympathy?

Are you feeling "with" yourself or "for" yourself?

"With" others or "for" others?

When you feel with someone they are still responsible for themselves. You are feeling with them and supporting them and they are empowered. You are not carrying them so it is uplifting and feels strong and good. This is called empathy.

When you feel for someone you are taking responsibility for them which comes off controlling. You can also do this to yourself. This feels heavy. Sometimes this is a passive behavior. If you are carrying your issues or others inside your your own head. You are carrying and worrying which creates anxiety. This creates internal pain. Sometimes this is an aggressive energy as well. If you are telling people what to do and putting your thoughts, feelings, or beliefs on top of them, this is called control of love and creates the pain of Sympathy!

How you treat yourself regarding your belief system, mental self talk, your feelings, body well being, and basic survival needs will determine your mind/ body state and pain tolerance and levels of pain.

So self awareness of all of you is a must to relieve yourself of human suffering!

Meditation and prayer can help you to maintain this awareness. Here are a few techniques you can use to help you:

• Is getting Quiet hard for you? To really sense and feel you, the first step is to get quiet and ask yourself questions or let your mind wander and pay attention without judging yourself good, bad, right, wrong or stupid, smart etc.
• You can work with water believe it or not. This one really works for me.
Because water is a great cleanser and preserver, it is ideal to use in mind body healing. Have you ever been attracted to water, a pond, a bath, pool, waterfall or ocean, river? Water is very healing. It affects our mind believe it or not. It almost has a language that talks to our bodies.

I was thinking….Is this really true? After all, we are bodies of water ourselves. Water is known to soothe and heal. Religions use it to bless. Different water temperatures affect us differently. If you feel and listen to your body it will talk to you. How does a cool rag affect you, or a warm bath, a cool swim, or a Jacuzzi?

The water brings relaxation and relief, and it washes away all difficulty, all pain, physical and emotional.

After this, you can imagine coming out of the water and often using the rays of the sun OR OTHER HEAT SOURCES TO FURTHER SOOTHE.
• You may be able to handle pain and illness more easily by knowing there is a reason for everything even if you don't see it or understand it now. Spiritual comfort means to understand that life is an experience not just for the body but the soul as well. It brings depth, compassion, and learning through its hurts and struggles. To know sadness is to know joy. To know pain is to know freedom!

Emotional Influence of Pain
An emotional build-up in the mind is certainly a source of depression. This occurs when you generate emotional energies such as guilt, fear, sadness, and anger, and do not release and express them. By not flowing outward these energies flow inward and are stored in the body/mind, and accumulate there. (See Feeling Release Paper in my book Invisible Warfare or at the top of my forum page/right hand side)

Emotional energies accumulated in the mind are destined to be returned, by the mind, up to our consciousness, and impact us painfully. This happens when a perception is matched by the mind to painful memories or projections of similar pain into our present and future life. The mind will bring up the painful emotion and it gives into our psyche. This is called an emotional reactivation. This trigger can be activated in present time and cause history to repeat itself against your will. Be aware!!!!!!!!! This hurts and the body does react!

On a typical day in the brain, trillions of messages are sent and received. The messages that are happy, up beat messages are carried by the brain's "HAPPY MESSENGERS" (technically known as Biogenic Amine/Endorphin System). Other messages are somber and quieting. They are carried by the brain's "SAD MESSENGERS". Most nerve centers receive input from both types of messengers. As long as this input is balanced, everything runs along on an even keel.

Stress, however, causes problems with the brain's Happy Messengers. When life is smooth, the happy messages keep up with demand. But when too much stress is placed on the brain, the Happy Messengers begin to fall behind on their deliveries. As the stress continues, the happy messages begin to fail. Important nerve centers then receive mostly SAD MESSAGES, and the whole brain becomes distressed. The person enters a state of brain chemical imbalance known as -- OVERSTRESS.

OVERSTRESS makes people feel terrible. With SAD MESSAGES overwhelming the happy messages, a person feels "overwhelmed" by life. People complain of being tired, unable to fall asleep or to obtain a restful night's sleep. They have plagues of aches and pains, lack of energy, lack of enjoyment of life. They feel depressed, anxious, or just unable to cope with life. So why must we rinse anger fear and sadness and do something about it and stay proactive??????? So it doesn't sit there and spin bringing us to a chemical depression. MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stress, sadness, fear, and anger have different concentrations of chemicals in this area of the brain.
Happy Messengers are three types of chemicals recognized as Serotonin, Noradrenalin, and Dopamine. Serotonin sets the body clock which plays three roles: the body temperature, stress fighting hormone and sleeping cycles. The Serotonin is located in Pineal Gland, in the center of the brain. Noradrenalin relates the energy level and it is a cousin of Adrenalin from adrenal glands. Dopamine controls the pleasure and the pain. It is clustered in the midbrain which is called Substantia nigra.

Western medicine uses a scientific method to explain precisely the cause of problems.

Chinese medicine deals health problems with philosophy which is concentrated on the constitution of a person rather than the disease. Therefore, the treatment is not to cure a disease, it is a way to "adjust", "harmonize", "regulate", "benefit" or calm the imbalance of the organs. The concepts of the "Energy" and "Blood" or organs are wider and vaguer than Western medicine. Chinese medicine theory is based on Yin Yang balance and the Five Phases theory. Each phase indicates an organ with its categories and functions. If the Yin and Yang of each part is balanced, the person is health; if it is not, the imbalanced part can be considered either Yin or Yang deficiency or reacted excess.

In Chinese medicine kidneys are the most important organs that are the repositories of the basal Yin and Yang of the whole body. Methods of strengthening kidneys are commonly used for increasing vital energy and the maintenance of health. Kidneys are also responsible for growth, development, and the reproductive functions and correspond the Water phase, the emotion of fear, the color black, the taste of salt, a rotten smell. They control the bones, marrow, and brain and their sensor organ is the ear. Any chronic physical or emotional disorder would cause the kidney deficiency to throw the body out of balance.

Since acupuncture is based on the Chinese medicine and meridians, the treatments have to follow the individual health conditions. A treatment usually includes simple diagnosis before inserting very thin and fine point disposable needles to certain points of the body. The stimulation of the needles from the acupuncture points sends the signals to the brain. When brain catches the signals first of all it releases Endorphin to reduce pain and compensate the imbalance of the chemicals.

If the symptoms of depression are matched the deficiency of Kidneys then treats the kidney meridian first. If the symptoms show the deficiency of other organs worse than kidney deficiency, treat other meridians first. For example, if the symptoms show the liver deficiency, it should enhance the liver function for detoxification first, and then eliminate the kidney deficiency. The reason is just like a car accident happened on a highway. The cars involved in the accident have to be removed to make the traffic go smoothly instead of speeding other cars by adding more gas.

Today, with our modern pressures and work stress, it is more important than ever to find inner health and balance. The preventive treatments and natural healing methods are more popular in the twenty one century. There are four features: (1) Balance the body with the environments (2) Enhance the immune system and self healing system of the body (3) Do not produce harmful side effects (4) Not only eliminate the symptoms, but also change the body constitution of self detoxification, adjustment, healing, purification, and strengthen the vital energy.

Depression is a quite common but complicated problem in our society. It is formed by a variety of negative elements. Acupuncture is like other healing methods with their limitation. If the depression is at the first or second stage, acupuncture can definitely help; if depression affects the structure of the brain, acupuncture might not be a good choice at that time. Acupuncture is one of powerful natural method for improving the quality of life, but do not wait until too late.

So why is laughter a must in Life?

Does laughing make me happy?
We've all heard that old adage, “Laughter is the best medicine.”

Laughing does a lot of good things for us. It gives our body a gentle work out by causing us to use muscles in the face, chest, and abdomen. It causes us to breathe deeply, cleansing our system. It raises the heart rate, and causes endorphins (feel good hormones) to be released. Laughing makes us feel the same way as eating really good chocolate or having sex makes us feel. After a good belly laugh, we feel relaxed and alive and energized. Wait, those are things a happy person might feel! And whatever it is that made us laugh, later when we think about it, we will probably laugh again, or at least smile, continuing the "feel goods".

Laughter is a valuable part of your authentic happiness! Laughing each and every day is as good for you physically, emotionally and spiritually as taking your vitamins and getting exercise. Enjoy a good laugh today!

That is how I make it through my day especially now. I prayed for my son to have a giggle in his tummy the day he was born. That was my wish because a giggle affects you in every healing way.

Laughter is the best medicine; Volumes have been written and spoken about the value of laughter in life and how laughter can make us happy - even if we don't feel happy to start with. Laughter connects people and is part of the fine art of life happiness. Research has shown that young children and toddlers laugh on average 300 times every day. 300 times! It's because to children, life is just one big happy event. They have what they need and are not concerned in the least about what they don't have - children are experts at the art of happiness.

What about the Eye Opening Experience?

Being Self Aware of what makes you tick, your strengths, your values and what you want are a must for the healing of pains and the creation of Happiness. If you don't know "yourself" how will you know how to treat you and teach others how to treat you? You are prey to the environment and those around you to treat you as they please.

No one is better or less than. They just are.... who they are, as.... you are, who you are.......that is.. if, you know, who you are!

This is called acceptance with understanding and no judgment therefore there is no pain here.

Psychological pain may be one of two things.
As mental pain it is any non-'physical' suffering.
Emotional pain is a particular kind of psychological pain, more closely related to emotions combined with memories and projections from the subliminal/ visual’s from the psyche. This affects your ability to check in with yourself intuitively, so truth is lost. (My book “Invisible Warfare” has this information in the Psyche chapter).

As psychogenic pain, it is physical pain caused by psychological stress or emotional trauma, as well as still being a physical trauma. Pain specialists consider psychogenic pain as real and painful as non-psychogenic pain.

In recent years there has been some prominence to lawsuits which attempt to recover money as a result of non physical pain but psychological pain, which has been quite controversial. So the mind does matter.

EFFECTS OF BODY STRESS ON THE BODY

When the point of stress overload is reached, the physical tensions becomes "locked" into the body and it takes protective measures by means of automatic reflexes these cause muscles adjacent, and overlying, to tighten or splint.

In time, stiffness of these muscles may become noticeable, ultimately leading to postural distortion. It may also lead to loss of flexibility, pain, or numbness. A person with body stress may also feel tense, tired, and lacking in energy and enthusiasm for life. Headaches, backache, and indigestion may follow.
It is also possible for the body stress to be present without the individual feeling any pain or stiffness although they will be aware of "not feeling quite right".

WHAT HEALTH PROBLEMS CAN BODY STRESS RELEASE HELP?

Body Stress Release is for everyone, from infants to the elderly. Usually people are looking for relief from pain, stiffness or other discomfort.

While Body Stress Release is not a diagnosis or treatment of any specific condition, many of the following complaints would benefit from some 'releases'.
Muscular-skeletal complaints: back and neck ache, hip pain, slipped discs, poor posture, repetitive strain injury, sports' injuries, arthritis, frozen shoulders, headaches and migraines, whiplash.
Respiratory conditions: hay fever, asthma, recurring colds, sinusitis.
Gastro-intestinal: heartburn, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, diarrhea.
Gynecological disorders: menstrual problems, infertility, menopausal symptoms, including hot flushes
Emotional problems: stress, insomnia, depression, anxiety, general fatigue.
Nervous system: neuralgia, facial paralysis.
Skin disorders: psoriasis, eczema.
Childhood conditions: colic in babies, poor posture, and growing pains in children.

Research Interests

We investigate the neurochemistry of pain with the aim of:
1) Identifying neuro chemicals that produce and inhibit pain.
2) Determining the interactions between these neuro chemicals and the circuits within the nervous system that carry pain messages or modulate pain.
3) Finding out how we may manipulate the chemistry within these circuits to shut pain off.

During the past decade much of our energy focused on studies of cannabinoids (molecules similar to THC, the active ingredient in marijuana) to determine whether cannabinoids suppress neural circuits that carry pain messages to the brain and whether endocannabinoids (marijuana-like substances produced by the body) serve naturally to modulate pain sensitivity. This is why many people use marijuana for psychological, mental, emotional, and physical pain. These studies of endocannabinoids led us to a more recent line of work in which we identified a number of new biomolecules that influence pain sensitivity.

To learn more go to the lab webpage (Walker Lab Website).
Pain is highly subjective to the individual experiencing it. A definition that is widely used in nursing was first given as early as 1968 by Margo McCaffery: "'Pain is whatever the experiencing person says it is, existing whenever he says it does". Respect yourself and each other to heal, be it of the mind, heart or body.
Pain is part of the body's defense system, triggering a reflex reaction to warn and protect from a painful stimulus or body memory form the past. Pain is trying to help us and give us a message of some kind. It is not meant as a bad guy or an enemy but a messenger.
Pain wants you to adjust your behavior to avoid or help you from a particular harmful situation in present time or the future.
Do you see why being empowered is so important to be truly Happy and to find peace and acceptance with the understanding of all kinds of pain?

Did you know there was such a thing as Emotional Logic? Well, there is.

When an emotion is being seen, felt, and expressed in a non-logical way it means the left brain isn't computing it chronologically or literally. But that doesn't mean there is NO logic. For example; if someone starts talking about a movie and how scary it was and then jumps to a scary experience when they were 10 years old and then talks about a phobia or an abstract fear, is this person crazy or in the logic of Fear? Can you see that this all relates to fear, so it does make sense? Feelings have a feeling direction.

Be careful of judging, it blinds you to wisdom!!!!!!!

So write out I just learned…. And I feel….
And I will talk to you next week.
Big Hugs to you all and thank you for being there.
Miss Mona

Could Paradise Be A Way Of Life?/w/ MIRAVAL

Could Paradise Be A Way Of Life?

Air Date: September 14th, 2008

Provides A World Renowned Way Of Living: America’s leading experience in healthy living teaches and shows balance, self awareness with tools to show you a mental, emotional, and physical way living as a way of everyday life!

As we ask for change we do not change. Why?

Do we know how?

Can we find a way to experience change without judging or fearing it?

Can it be a way of life?

Is Miraval an example or experience to show us what to do?

Can we stop our friends and family from putting us or these changes and beliefs down?

Let’s see how we can change and create a miracle!!

...Once upon a time there was an absurd idea that we could live together in technological advancement as well as in self awareness. What did this mean exactly? It meant no more hurting and hating ourselves which then translated into not hurting and hating others even if they were angry, mean or judgmental to us. This sounds impossible only if you have not experienced this yourself.
...At first, I had to just hold my stomach and take myself out of the room. Then I could say stop, for step 2, the third step was to not be reactive and eventually ask someone a question with compassion in my voice while they were upset or even lashing me.
See?
...What I am saying is "There is a way to think, feel and believe differently and understand we are all someone's baby".

So why am I talking about MIRAVAL?

Waiting out the storm!!

~~~~Waiting out the storm~~~~
When the Addict Hits the Financial Realm
_________________________________________
Special Guests this week:
Financial Advisor Tim Gandy
and Dr. Lloyd Watts- Author "THE FLOW OF TIME AND MONEY"
Dear Listeners,
Please e-mail me before Sunday,
your thoughts and feelings regarding these questions
or feel free to add your own 2 cents worth!!
What do you think, feel, and believe about the economy?
How is the economy affecting you?
What do you know about the economy?
What do you wish?
What can you personally do differently?
Gas, food prices and the housing market affect the economy how much?
If your partner is having a hard time, can you still be a cheerleader while allowing yourself to go through those same feelings of anxiety. What is it like to be in both roles?
Are you about to fight or have already begun to fight over stupid stuff like the toothpaste lid? Explain.
***********************************************
An economy is the realized social system of production, exchange, distribution, and consumption of goods and services of a country or other area.
A given economy is the end result of a process that involves its technological evolution, civilization's history and social organization, as well as its geography, resource endowment, and ecology, among other factors. These factors give context, content, and set the conditions and parameters in which an economy functions.
***********************************************
The high functioning 1990's, was the upswing of a prosperous economy, jobs were everywhere.
Now all that has changed.
Sept. 11th came and brought world terrorism home. Please don't be confused, we have plenty of terrorism here. We have gangs, bigoted groups, drugs and alcohol killing ourselves and our children. Robberies, rapes, molestation, physical torture and beatings.
We are a society becoming aware, but not yet healed.
When financial stress hits us personally or as a culture, it can have a rippling affect into our hearts, self esteem, mental beliefs, relationships, family structure and health. Financial stress can cause such painful conflicts and fear that we can get deeply wounded. Watch how many break ups and divorces follow. In fact, according to some experts, financial problems are the major cause of 80 percent of the divorces in the United States.
Anxiety Disorder sets in because the financial life is perceived by the mental mind in a judgmental, fearful, guilty, or shameful way.
The Financial Realm still needs attention, but must stay # 6 in the Realms order, or faith and creativity for survival dissipates.
(Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, Physical, Sexual, Financial)
The 1990’s were booming!!!!!!!!! But it soon became about addictive mentalities and behavior, like the craving for cocaine or alcohol, which has been the mentality of our society.
We are coming out of gluttonous consumption's. We wanted what we wanted and we wanted it now!!!!!!!! Well, we got it. Didn't this happen big time in the roaring 1920’s too?
Isn't it said, better to ask for what’s true, not necessarily for what we want?
~By coming from a position of neediness in any area, leaves us vulnerable, especially if our needs depend on volatile people or cultures of Unconstitutional belief systems. To rely on an abusive parent, partner or culture that is not that of freedom is a compromise that is always dangerous. Even the concept of relying on Iraq for oil, is a set up for failure.
Belief matters, doesn't it?
We as a society have been coming from a reactive position versus a proactive one. Let's get this lesson this time.
***********************************************
Economists on average have projected that gross domestic product grew at an annualized 0.2% rate in the quarter.
Two quarters of declining GDP is a traditional indicator of recession. That last happened in 2001.
Even though a middle-to upper-class person or couple, in theory, may have more resources, their lifestyle is right up there where their income is, and so they are just as in danger of defaulting on a loan as a working- class person or couple.
Some people can see in different realms when one realm is out of balance. They can separate love, truth, self worth and relationships from their struggle and come up with game plans and boundaries. This process is Spiritual believe it or not and everyone becomes stronger from the inside out.
Tough times aren't pretty, but they can create confidence, not arrogance, that after recovering from any struggles, financial problems as well, they believe they can make it through anything.
Feeling guilty or embarrassed kills your spirit and self motivation. Don't go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shame and Guilt kills!
P.S. This can kill sex too. ;) When you come home miserable, you or your partner is not turned on so~no sex.
1. Recession in the Housing Market. The problems in the US housing market is the reduction of consumer spending and pushes the US economy closer to recession.
However, by cutting interest rates the dollar is further weakened. (Creating less demand for holding assets in the dollar - so there is less hot money flowing).
2. Less Confidence in the Dollar. means the more the dollar falls, the less confidence people have in the dollar. Therefore, foreign investors are increasingly looking to diversify out of dollar holdings and into other currencies.
On the Brighter Side -
1. American Goods are becoming very cheap. European and Japanese exports are becoming more expensive.
2. The US is not the only country to have a large current account deficit.
3. A slowdown in the economy will reduce consumer spending on imports, this combined with the devaluation of the dollar the current account deficit is likely to fall.
The rich are sharing your financial pain and contributing to it.
The rich are investing more conservatively, spending less on luxury goods and are being thrifty with their credit cards.
Many people who have lost their jobs or homes in this economy may say boo hoo but the problem is, that when the wealthy get stingy, it trickles down to the rest of us.
To be sure, the poor and middle-class are being hurt more, but upper crust thriftiness could reverberate across the rest of the economy.
The 10 percent of households with the highest incomes account for nearly a quarter of all spending, according to data compiled by research firm Moody's Economy.com from a 2006 federal survey.
Consumer spending makes up 70 percent of gross domestic product.
For most Americans, the choice has been whether to give up small indulgences, such as eating out or going to the movies, to help defray the rising cost of food and fuel.
For the wealthy, the choices have been different.
The wealthy are examining, “Do you keep the yacht, do you go to the classic car auction, do you take the private jet?” True, those sound like nice problems to have, but at the same time, they are issues.
Although the rich may be suffering somewhat, most have a far bigger financial cushion to ride out hard times than folks living paycheck to paycheck.
About Dr. Lloyd Watts:
New Book THE FLOW OF TIME AND MONEY Shows People How to Survive the Current Hard Economic Times by: Dr. Lloyd Watts
Mountain View, CA— “Begin the habit of accumulating capital for investment, “counsels successful entrepreneur Dr. Lloyd Watts, who wrote the new book THE FLOW OF TIME AND MONEY to help people avoid or climb out of debt, regularly save and wisely invest 10% of their income.
“The surest way to build wealth is to regularly transfer at least 10% of your income into a separate account at a different institution than your bank—promising yourself not to take it out. That money is solely for the purpose of growing your wealth; it is not savings for deferred spending. Invest in assets that earn you more money—such as rent on a property you own, good dividends paid by solid stocks or the royalties paid on a song you’ve written.”
In a period when the national credit crisis is sapping the resources of millions, Watts’s book is particularly timely. He believes that the current housing crisis, which has tragically forced so many into foreclosure, is actually a rare and terrific home-buying opportunity for those who have put away money for investment.
“If you are going to become wealthy, rather than just look wealthy, you are going to need to live below your means, so you can accumulate capital for the purpose of investing and creating businesses,” Watts explains. “Don’t spend your money on the things that only make you look rich.”
“Keep your expenses low,” “avoid consumer debt”
Happy 100th Birthday, Labor Day!!!
Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 04:31 PM
Is Labor Day just an “official” sign that summer is over, especially summer vacation for the kids? Many schools begin right after Labor Day. For others, Labor Day represents the last long weekend to play. Do you remember when Labor Day was the fashion moment when you were no longer allowed to wear white or you were judged as a fashion nightmare? (By the way, the rule of not wearing white after Labor Day no longer exists.)
Thank God, I love white!! ;)
Unlike a lot of holidays, Labor Day is not based on any cultural custom, any one person (alive or dead), any religion, race, or brought over to America by immigrants from another country. Labor Day is a holiday set aside to honor all workers.
The History of Labor Day
Labor Day was born in the 1890’s. In 1893, the Pullman Company, a railroad sleeping car manufacturer, laid off hundreds of its workers as a result of the decline in orders for railroad sleeping cars caused by a nationwide depression.
Workers who remained, received pay cuts while their house rents to the company remained consistent; therefore, take-home paychecks were slashed. Workers then walked off the job and demanded higher pay and lower rents. The American Railway Union (ARU), led by Eugene V. Debs, joined the cause of the striking workers and this led to a nationwide boycott, by railroad workers, of trains carrying Pullman cars.
Rioting, looting, and burning of railroad cars soon followed and mobs of non-union workers joined in.
The strike immediately drew national attention. President Grover Cleveland declared the strike a federal crime and sent 12,000 troops to break it up. Violence broke out and two men were killed when U.S. deputy marshals opened fire on protesters in Kensington, near Chicago.
The strike failed and was declared over on August 3, 1894. Debs was imprisoned, the ARU was disbanded, and all Pullman employees from then on had to sign a pledge that they would never again unionize.
Unions didn’t really start until The Great Depression of 1929!
Imagine how hard people had to fight for just the “right” to work and earn a living. To provide was an honor, and any work was to be done at your best capability. This was called a work ethic.
And now, the tides have turned to ~ what can I get from someone else and what can others do for me, not what can I do or be for me and yes, others too.
It went from honor and respect to entitlement and the wanting of more, more, and more and giving less, less and less.
To be of service is now humiliating, not honorable. Service is a gift, not a lower class position where people treat you like crap!
In today’s world the need to balance; family, self development, hobbies, fitness and a job is a lot, don’t you think? So let’s figure out how to do it.
1. Labor is the effort of performing a task and for the workers engaged in the activity. Labor in certain times, meant work done by slaves.
2. In the feudal period, agricultural labor was in the main performed by the serf.
3. In medieval towns, however, the skilled artisans of the craft guilds became influential citizens.
4. Many manual labor jobs were eliminated with the introduction of machinery (mid-18th century), thus creating a labor surplus.
5. With increased competition for jobs and consequent decreasing wages, a form of labor contract came into use in Great Britain and its colonies, called indenture, by which people could hire themselves out for a certain number of years either for a lump sum of money or to pay off a debt. (This practice disappeared by the end of the 19th century.)
6. The term labor today is most frequently used to signify organized labor and unions.
So Labor/Work/Job now comes with perceptions which we can feel blessed or depressed depending on how we individually choose to perceive it.
Could a change in perception cure a lot of the working person’s depression?
A Change of Perception Creates A Miracle!
How do you feel about the “right” to work now?
